Book of Shadows

Morning Ritual

I have written about this on an earlier page called Tiny Teachings and Ideas if you have linked here from another page. Forgive me, but I dislike repeating.

Evening Ritual

Again please look to Tiny Teachings and Ideas to get an explanation.

A friend of mine, whom practices the occult, passed this little beauty on to me. Truly it is a wonderful Ritual, for when done by the instructions it can change your life. it is from a book called "Qutub" by Andrew D. Chumbley. The beginning of this book has a wonderful 75 stanza poem that is great for meditation. It opens doors in you mind to ask questions that you may have had the answers to but not the question.

This Ritual is not a Taran Ritual but it is one that all Occultist should do. I think anyway.

This is a Ritual to meet and confront your shadow. That part of you that holds you make and makes you be things that you don't really want to be. We all have that part of us, the one that doesn't want to do anything, that lies, and cheats, manipulates you into being something that neither you nor anyone else likes. When this side of you is confronted, you can deal with it then store it away or banish it. This Ritual freed me from 20 years of one lie that grew and grew. I never realized that this was what was holding be back from enjoying life to the fullest. With that shadow gone I have the energy to concentrate on other things(like cleaning the house, making a web page, ect.) Before I was happy with nothing, because my shadow was holding me back and I was using a lot of energy to keep it inline.

To do this ritual you need a big white candle, and a place that you can go to do the ritual and leave for a short period of time, you must be alone in the room while completing this ritual. It takes 7 seven days, doing it everyday once at the sunrise and once at the sunset. When you are ready place the candle in the middle of you shadow on the ground, so you have to have you back to the rising or setting sun. There are two poems involved. "The Prayer of the Design," which is done facing the candle. Cast a quick circle (you can see Chants for an idea.) The read the poem allowing pauses where the punctuation allows. When you have finished this phase, start turning in place allowing your shadow to be and not be, over the candle flame. On the sunrise, turn clockwise, on the sunset turn counter clockwise. Begin the "Formula of the Opposer" saying it pausing at punctuation pauses. After completion, ground and center, blow out the candle and leave the room for at least an hour.

Don't worry if you don't understand what you are saying the first few times. As you read the meaning will come to you, and you will begin to feel the affects.

This is just an exercise in circle casting. It is also used in combination with many of the elemental exercises.

Elements

Exercises in learning the elements and finding them in you. There are also pages on each element with rituals in honor of each.

This is jus t a little section that will help anybody. I hope. Sometimes it is hard to find the time to get all the things you need to do that healing spell you wanted to do for a friend. Or you haven't had the time to do a Mother Moon ritual. Perhaps you yourself are feeling ill and don't feel like doing a full ritual? These things happen. Maybe I can Help?

I question I see a lot in my e-mail groups is, "How do I arrange my Book of Shadows?" I just wanted to share with you how I do mine. Some people use one book. No way I could get all the information I have gathered or written into one book. What I do is I have a main book. In this book I start to gather things, when the section has become quite big I transfer it to a folder. (One of those with the clear covers and folding pronges.) When it becomes to big for this, I again transfer it, this time into a large three-ring binder. I really don't recommend using a writing notebook for your gathering and writing. It makes it hard to look things up later.

I have a binder for each of the Sabbats, my chants and so on.

My herbal is on index cards filed under, Herbs, Illnesses, Magick, How To, Recipes for Healing, Teas. This make it easy to expand and find what I need fast. I also keep my homemade toiletry recipes on index cards. All in all I think I have four long Boxes full of index cards. (Spells, Herbs, Toiletries and Crafts)

All the basic learning and exercises I have in a separate binder so that it does not clutter the things I use every day.

My Spells are on index cards also categorized by the main objective of the spell.

On the computer I have a folder with smaller folders categorized by section, spells, Wheel of the Year, Candle Magick, ect. Once I have gone through them and read them I print them out and add them to the corresponding binder. My hard copy Book of Shadows is much bigger than my Disk of Shadows. (I think my hard copy is 6 large three-ringers, 7 binders, 3 writing notebooks and 4 index boxes.)

I hope this helps any who have the question about it. Perhaps those that didn’t, got some ideas.

(This page isn't working yet.)
Don't get excited I don't have any neat programs that will make data basing easier. But I am working on a Book of Shadows program with my husband. One that is empty until you add your things to it.

I have tried to keep each of the pages in this book neat, tidy, and printable. Please feel free to do so.
